Mass balance using recycled tyres – what does it mean? For selected textiles, VAUDE uses polyamide produced using a certified mass balance approach. In this process, pyrolysis oil derived from end-of-life tyres is used as an alternative to fossil crude oil in polyamide production, while the recycled raw material is allocated to the final products using the mass balance method. The resulting polyamide offers the same functional properties as conventionally produced polyamide. According to a life cycle assessment of the manufacturing process, CO₂e emissions can be reduced by around 60% compared with the production of conventional polyamide.* Further information about the mass balance approach and the underlying methodology can be found in our Sustainability Report.
