So find the right carrying system for your bike backpack

The back system is the heart of every backpack. Wearing comfort and fit depend on it. Bike backpacks from VAUDE are highly functional products that offer versatile adjustment options.

The right back system

The backpack system, also called the carrying system, is the direct connection between the wearer and the pack and therefore the most important component on the backpack. High wearing comfort is important so that you can fully concentrate on your performance and fully enjoy your tour.

In principle, VAUDE back systems are multifunctional. For the different areas of use, we still offer different systems so that you are well equipped for every situation. Depending on the activity, biker backpacks are offered with a body-contact back or with a rear-ventilated back system.

What the back system must do

A well-functioning back system lies flat on the back and thus ensures an even distribution of the load, so that the handling on the bike is not affected. It provides comfort, stability and a good fit, even when the backpack is fully loaded, and thus does not cause pressure points. It also provides protection and allows optimal air circulation between the backpack and the back.

What you should pay attention to when trying on

Only if the backpack is tailored exactly to your physical needs will it offer you the best possible support. At the same time, you can ensure that the backpack does not restrict your freedom of movement.

The main focus during the fitting should therefore be on the perfect fit of the backpack to your back. With many models, the shoulder straps can be adjusted exactly to your personal back length and shape.

We have put together a few tips to help you adjust the packed backpack correctly to your back:

  1. Loosen and extend the shoulder straps and load positioning straps on the shoulder strap.
  2. Put on the backpack and close the hip belt around the pelvis. The hip belt should rest on the top edge of the pelvic bone.
  3. Now bend into riding position and slowly tighten the shoulder straps until they fit comfortably in the shoulder area and the pack does not move upwards when bending forward
  4. If present, tighten load positioning straps on shoulder strap and close chest strap. The chest strap defines the distance between the shoulder straps and is also regulated in the riding position.

Adjust back length correctly: Shifting Back Length

With the "Shifting Back Length", the entire back length of the backpack can be continuously adjusted to the user - for that extra bit of comfort on all tours.

Compared to the F.L.A.S.H. technology, not only the length of the shoulder straps is adjusted here, but the entire back length.

Adjusting the strap length correctly

You can adjust the length of the straps properly using F.L.A.S.H. technology. With a Velcro strap on the underside of the back system, the length of the shoulder straps can be adjusted quickly, continuously and comfortably to your body size. Opening the Velcro strap releases the fixation of the shoulder straps (1). By pulling out or pushing in the shoulder strap, it can be adjusted in length (2). Then press the Velcro back into place. Size markings on the outside of the Velcro strap will help you determine the correct strap length.

Ventilated back

Ventilated back systems create a space between the pack and the back that is open on three sides and allows air to circulate. The pack does not rest directly on the back, but is kept at a distance by a light mesh. This provides maximum ventilation to the back.
Ventilated back systems are best suited for sweaty activities where high ventilation is required.

Aeroflex

Aeroflex is our classic ventilated back system for backpacks. A rigid mesh is stretched over an extremely lightweight spring wire frame. The mesh tension ensures that the backpack has sufficient distance to the back and does not lie flat. This creates a generous ventilation space that allows ideal three-way ventilation (= from both sides and from below) of the back.

The back system adapts to the curvature of your back, no matter what activity you're doing or what riding position you're in. Backpacks with the patented Aeroflex carrying system are best suited for bike tours where ventilation of the back is a priority. However, the load center is further away from the back than body contact backpacks.

Aeroflex 3D

Aerolflex 3D represents the evolution of our classic Aeroflex back. The range of use is exactly the same, but the performance of the back has been significantly increased.

The design allows ventilation from all sides. This reduces heat buildup on the back by up to 42%* and moisture buildup by up to 23%*.

Aeroflex Control

In backpacks with Aeroflex Control, the ventilated back can be converted to a body-contact back. This is because the ventilation space on the back can be infinitely adjusted. A lot of space provides optimal ventilation, less space provides better balance, since the load center is closer to the body. Thus, these backpacks have a very diverse range of applications.

Body contact back

Backpacks with body contact backs were developed primarily for biking in demanding terrain.

The backpack rests directly on the back, so the load is distributed evenly and the center of gravity is close to the body. This has a positive effect on balance and freedom of movement is thus hardly affected.

Vent-Tex Ultralight

The back system VENT-TEX Ultralight was developed specifically for sporty road cycling and mountain biking or day trips with light luggage. In this system, a back plate was omitted to reduce weight, but not skimped on comfort. The flexible back system adapts to your every move and every position you take on the bike. Mesh padding along the spine ensures comfort even on demanding trails. The padding does not absorb moisture and creates a large ventilation channel through which the back is ventilated in the best possible way.

Vent Active Bike

The Vent Active Bike back system provides stability and comfort on single and multi-day tours with light to normal luggage. Thanks to an ergonomically shaped back plate (EMP), an even load distribution and pack stability is ensured. Ventilation works by means of ventilation channels in the padding surfaces.

EMP

EMP (Ergonomic Movement Panel) is a lightweight, ergonomically shaped back panel. It gives your backpack stability and distributes the load evenly.

At the same time, the panel allows freedom of movement (e.g. rotational movements in the upper part) so you can react quickly in demanding terrain.

Knit technology

Thanks to a globally unique 3D knit construction (= Knit Technology), we can manufacture VAUDE backpacks at a level of quality never seen before: The production is extremely resource-friendly, as there is no waste material in the foam-free back part.

The seamless finish ensures exceptional comfort and a perfect fit. Thus, the vest-like back system is also ideally suited for movement-intensive sports. Through special placement of different hardness zones on the back, the pressure distribution and also the ventilation are optimized.
