The Emerald Isle turned out to be an ideal testing ground for VAUDE’s new trekking collection. Of the many types of rain in Ireland, sideways rain is one of the worst there’s no getting around a proper raincoat and robust trekking pants. A long sleeve, fast drying shirt and a fleece for cool evenings are also must-haves for your pack.
If you want to spend time in the wilderness, you should be ready put some effort into protecting it – by choosing the right gear. Each product in the Skarvan Series bears the VAUDE Green Shape label so you can be sure it’s an eco-friendly, functional product made from sustainable materials. In addition, VAUDE has signed on to the Greenpeace Detox Commitment and has fully eliminated the use of harmful PFCs (perfluorinated compounds) that are often still used in laminates and waterproofing finishes for outdoor clothing. In the interest environmental conservation, VAUDE is using Eco Finish exclusively for the Summer Collection 2018 – a water repellent finish that’s 100% fluorocarbon-free, proving that technical, high performance products can be eco-friendly and still look good!
The Skarvan Jacket in a waterproof hybrid construction offers weather protection for lightweight trekking! The rain jacket features a longer cut and a technical polyamide shell that’s not only robust, but also absolutely waterproof and windproof with a 100% PTFE-free Ceplex membrane. It is designed for carrying heavier trekking backpacks: a robust 3-layer material was used at the shoulders and the hips while a very lightweight 2.5 layer material was used at low-stress zones. The pockets are set higher so that you access your necessities even when wearing a hipbelt, while long vents and a breathable membrane ensure a comfortable microclimate. Like all VAUDE apparel, the jacket features Eco Finish, an eco-friendly water repellent that is PFC-free.
Skarvan Pants also earn bonus points for the environment. These lightweight trekking pants are made from a robust yet stretchy fabric that combines polyamides with elastane. Their turf is long trekking tours in cooler climates, but with their stylish, casual good looks, they’re also perfect for the journey there or a short stop in the city. An integrated belt and useful pockets round off these comfortable touring pants. For warmer weather, VAUDE designed the Skarvan Bermudas (Skarvan Shorts for women) with the same materials.
The Skarvan Series includes other items to awaken your wanderlust. And again, with the environment in mind, VAUDE chose green materials and worked with innovative fabrics like S-Café®, wool and fast drying polyester.
The Skarvan Shirt or Halfzip is especially recommended for trekking or hiking in cooler regions. With the feel of a classic cotton shirt, the Drirelease® fabric blend made from polyester and Merino wool is full of performance: extremely fast drying, lightly cooling and odor-inhibiting.
A softshell and fleece jacket round off this trekking package and create the perfectly coordinated apparel system. The Skarvan Series will be available starting Spring 2018 for women and men in retail stores.
