The VAUDE carrying systems at a glance
The back system is the heart of every backpack. Wearing comfort and fit depend on it. VAUDE backpacks are highly functional products that offer versatile adjustment options.
How do I find the right back system?
The back system, also called the carrying system, is the direct connection between the wearer and the pack and therefore the most important component on the backpack. High wearing comfort is important so that you can fully concentrate on your performance and fully enjoy your tour. In principle, VAUDE back systems are multifunctional. For the different areas of use, we still offer different systems so that you are well equipped for every situation. Depending on the activity, backpacks are offered with a body-contact back or with a rear-ventilated back system.
What the back system must do
A well-functioning back system rests flat against your back, distributing the load evenly so it doesn't upset your balance while hiking. It provides comfort, stability and a good fit, even when the backpack is fully loaded, and thus does not cause pressure points. It also provides protection and allows for optimal air circulation between the backpack and your back.
What you should pay attention to when trying on
Only if the backpack is tailored exactly to your physical needs will it offer you the best possible support. At the same time, you can ensure that the backpack does not restrict your freedom of movement. The main focus of the fitting should therefore be on the perfect fit of the backpack to your back.

Fit
VAUDE offers backpack models in every volume range and for every activity - from climbing to hiking to backpacking backpacks. Thanks to different adjustment options, you can always adapt the backpack to your individual needs. So it always sits securely and balanced on your back, even during movement-intensive activities.
What back length is right for me?
How well the backpack fits depends largely on your back length. In another blog post we explain how to measure it and which VAUDE backpacks fit it.
Body contact back
Backpacks with body contact backs are highly functional mountain and climbing backpacks designed primarily for activities in demanding alpine terrain (via ferrata, etc.).
The backpack rests directly on the back, so the load is distributed evenly and the center of gravity is close to the body. This has a positive effect on balance and freedom of movement is thus hardly affected.
Synergy Mold
Backpacks with the Synergy Mold back system are designed for high-altitude and ski touring in demanding terrain. The system impresses with its stability and body-hugging fit. Large-volume models offer pack stability and optimal carrying comfort thanks to an adjustable aluminum frame. Small-volume models allow optimal load transfer and pack stability through an integrated, ergonomic back plate.

Synergy Mold Light
VAUDE backpacks with the "Synergy Mold Light" back system are designed for alpine activities in all seasons and in demanding terrain. Due to the low weight you have maximum freedom of movement, the embossed foam padding repels moisture and snow. A large ventilation channel along the spine provides optimal ventilation for your back. Adjustable aluminum struts or an aluminum frame provide stability and good wearing comfort (not installed in all models).
- highest freedom of movement and low weight
- water-repellent and designed for alpine activities
- optimal back ventilation

Vent Active Hike
The back system "Vent Active Hike" gives you stability and freedom of movement at the same time during your day tour. So you feel safe with your VAUDE backpack even in rough terrain. An ergonomically shaped EMP back panel (Ergonomic Movement Panel) optimizes load transfer and pack stability while offering the necessary freedom of movement. Ventilation channels in the padding surfaces ventilate your back in an ideal way.
- ideal load transfer and pack stability thanks to ergonomic EMP back panel
- for day tours with light to normal luggage, even in rough terrain
- good ventilation of the back through ventilation channels in the padding surfaces

Ventilated back
Ventilated back systems create a space between the pack and the back that is open, allowing air to circulate. The pack does not rest directly on the back, but is kept at a distance by a light mesh. This provides maximum ventilation to the back. Ventilated back systems are best for sweaty activities where high ventilation is required.
Aeroflex
VAUDE backpacks with the "Aeroflex carrying system" have a firm mesh stretched over an extremely light and curved spring wire frame. Thus, the backpack does not rest against the back and at the same time provides sufficient distance and packing stability. The generous ventilation space ensures ideal ventilation from both sides during your tour.
- Back is optimally ventilated
- Packstabilät by circumferential spring wire frame
- does not lie against the back

Aeroflex 3D
You can enjoy continuous ventilation with Aeroflex 3D. It eliminates heat retention, reduces sweating and creates an optimal microclimate for enjoyable hiking. In addition, the integrated spring wire frame of this VAUDE backpack ensures pack stability so you’ll be perfectly outfitted for one-day and multi-day hiking tours.
- exceptionally comfortable due to optimal ventilation of your back
- pack stability due to full spring wire frame
- ideal for trips lasting one day or longer

Aeroflex Control
VAUDE backpacks with Aeroflex Control allow you to fully adjust your pack’s ventilation space. The rear-ventilated back can be converted to a full contact back when needed. It’s up to you – more distance = optimal ventilation, less distance = better balance because the center of gravity of your pack is closer to your own center of gravity. With this suspension system, you’ll be perfectly prepared for all kinds of adventures. The full spring wire frame also ensures excellent pack stability.
- fully adjustable ventilation space at the back
- high pack stability due to the full spring wire frame
- versatile for all types of outdoor activities

Trekking backs
Our trekking and travel backpacks are designed for carrying a lot of luggage and heavy loads for long periods of time. The optimal adjustment of the individual back length ensures the best possible carrying comfort.
A poorly fitted backpack not only spoils the fun of the tour, but can lead to tension and back pain. A precisely fitted backpack is easier to carry because the load is ideally placed on the hips and shoulders, so less force has to be applied.
Tergolight Comfort Space
A recess in the lower back area relieves your sensitive sacroiliac joint during a tour with medium-heavy luggage and helps to avoid pain in the lower back. The back length is infinitely adjustable and you can regulate the upper load position straps indiviuell.
- infinitely adjustable back length and individually adjustable load position straps
- especially suitable for tours with medium-heavy loads
- relieves the lower spine

Tergolight Comfort Space Pro

The back length is infinitely adjustable and you can regulate the upper load position straps indiviuell. Two internal aluminum frames ensure optimal load distribution and extra stability. So you are also equipped for week-long trekking tours.

- relieves your sensitive illiosacral joint in the lower back

Technologies
VAUDE backpacks use various technologies that ensure optimal functionality. Below you will find a short overview of the most important technologies that make our products so unique.
Shifting Back Length
With the Shifting Back Length, the shoulder strap attachment of your VAUDE backpack can be continuously adjusted in height. The loads are ideally distributed and the backpack fits perfectly. The fit, optimized to your individual body size, provides the extra plus in wearing comfort and you can fully enjoy your tour.
- infinitely variable adjustment to the individual length of the back
- optimized fit for high wearing comfort
- highest freedom of movement thanks to adjusted width

EMP
With this lightweight and ergonomically shaped back plate you have maximum freedom of movement even in demanding terrain. The design allows you to move forward, while at the same time providing stabilization to the rear, preventing luggage from pressing through against your back. The back plate distributes the load evenly on your back and also increases the pack stability.
- maximum freedom of movement even in demanding terrain
- very good pack stability
- even load distribution

Knit technology
Thanks to a worldwide unique 3D knit construction (= Knit Technology) we are able to produce VAUDE backpacks on a quality level never seen before: Production is extremely resource-friendly, as there is no waste material in the foam-free back section. The seamless finish ensures exceptional comfort and a perfect fit. Thus, the vest-like back system is also ideally suited for movement-intensive sports. Special placement of different hardness zones on the back optimizes pressure distribution and also ventilation.

Aluminum frame
To ensure an even more precise fit, some VAUDE backpacks with body contact backs have aluminum stays or aluminum frames that can be removed and individually adjusted.

Ergo Shape shoulder straps
Ergo Shape shoulder straps are ergonomically shaped to improve your freedom of movement. In the shoulder area, the straps are wide and provide increased wearing comfort. In the shoulder joint area they are particularly narrow to restrict the natural freedom of movement as little as possible. For men's and women's backpacks, we use variants of the Ergo Shape shoulder straps that are specifically adapted to the anatomy.
