How do I renew the waterproofing on my VAUDE product?
Waterproofing is a treatment applied to the surface of textiles to make outdoor products more resistant to moisture and dirt as well as weathering caused by sunlight or to repel insects, for example. The waterproofing (also known as DWR) is applied to the outer fabric of your product and acts like a protective layer on the surface. This gives you and your product better protection: Raindrops roll off, UV rays cannot damage the material as easily and mosquitoes are repelled. At VAUDE, we treat our products in an environmentally friendly way during production and deliberately avoid harmful chemicals such as PFCs or use plant-based agents such as geraniol as a natural insect repellent. These finishes do not last forever, which is why you should regularly treat your product with environmentally friendly impregnating agents.
Protection against moisture, dirt, UV rays & mosquitoes: VAUDE uses three different finishes in the manufacturing process:
Eco Finish
Makes dirt and water roll off.
Solar Finish
Protects against UV rays.
Anti-Mosquito
Repels mosquitoes.
To ensure that these finishes and your products serve their purpose for as long as possible, you should regularly renew the respective protection and reimpregnate them again and again. We explain exactly how this works here!
How do I keep my rain jacket or rain trousers permanently water-repellent?
It has long been known how dangerous PFAS are. That's why we started phasing out PFAS back in 2010. To make rain and dirt roll off products, we do not use poly- and perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), which belong to the PFAS group. A PFC-free finish is often not quite as durable as the conventional PFC-containing versions. The first factory finish wears off over time and washes out after several washes. However, you can easily renew the protection yourself. For long-lasting functionality, we recommend the PFC-free TX-Direct waterproofing spray from Nikwax (water-based).

Protection against UV rays - care for your tent properly
Sunlight is not only harmful to us humans, but also to the material of tents. UV rays cause the outer material of your tent to age much faster and it can become brittle. Our tents are supplied with UV protection. In order to protect your tent optimallyn order to optimally protect your tent, proper care is necessary after every major use to ensure that it remains functional in the long term.

How anti-mosquito clothing keeps mosquitoes away permanently
"Anti Mosquito" products from VAUDE are equipped with effective protection against mosquitoes. The plant-based active ingredient geraniol ensures that you are no longer attractive to mosquitoes & co.
The VAUDE anti-mosquito finish lasts for around 20 washes at 30° C. We recommend refreshing the insect repellent with Green First afterwards.
