VAUDE honored for fair working conditions for the 10th time in a row

  • Leader status for outstanding commitment
  • Pioneer for responsible working conditions in the textile industry

Tettnang, 04.03.2025 - VAUDE committed itself for many years with great commitment to faire working conditions in the global supply chain - for this, the outdoor brand has now been by the independent Fair Wear for the 10th timel in a row with the Leader status awarded. The basis for this is the annual reviewthe "Brand Performance Check", in which VAUDE once again the higheste Categoryt has.

"We are very proud that, despite the complex challenges in the supply chain and the difficult economic and political conditions worldwide, we have been able to make further progress and implement concrete improvements for the people on the ground," says Antje von Dewitz, VAUDE Managing Director.

Leader status is awarded to companies that are strongly committed to compliance with social standards in the supply chain and that have an exemplary system in place. VAUDE works with over 40 production facilities worldwide - with 80 percent of producers for more than five years and with 40 percent of production facilities for more than ten years. VAUDE has been a member of Fair Wear since 2010 "Brand Performance Check", monitors working conditions on site and provides and supports anonymous complaints systems in most production facilities. Together with Fair Wear, VAUDE is committed to improvements in the global textile industry. To implement social standards in the supply chains, a three-person team at the Tettnang site works closely with the three VAUDE CSR employees in Asia who regularly visit the production facilities. "The Leader status is a great confirmation of our joint work! Above all, it is also an incentive to continue to do everything we can to promote good working conditions and human rights," says Anika Mauz, Vendor Management VAUDE.

Brand Performance Check

VAUDE is comprehensively audited by Fair Wear every year. At the "Brand Performance Check" the company must prove that it fulfills the due diligence obligations for responsible working conditions at its producers. For example, VAUDE's compliance with its human rights responsibilities is closely examined and evaluated. If there are complaints, VAUDE must work with the respective producer to implement and demonstrate measures for improvement. In the current "Brand Performance Check", VAUDE achieved a benchmark score of 80 and thus the highest category "Leader Status". "As one of the leading members of Fair Wear, VAUDE has continuously demonstrated its commitment to human rights in its supply chain for many years. In the Brand Performance Check 2024, Vaude once again proved that the company is a pioneer in the implementation of human rights due diligence (HRDD) with comprehensive risk assessment and concrete measures. In 2023, Vaude focused primarily on expanding its work in the areas of 'gender' and 'living wages' to further improve working conditions in its supply chain," says Victoria Lauer, Membership Team, Fair Wear.

"We do all this voluntarily and want to show that it is possible to take responsibility in the supply chain. However, in order to achieve major changes, we need a supply chain law that holds all companies accountable," demands Antje von Dewitz and warns in view of the currently planned "Omnibus procedure" warns of a massive dilution of companies' Responsibility of companies for people and nature: "This is a fatal signal: for the protection of people and the environment in our supply chains. For all those companies that take sustainability seriously and are already investing to meet their own responsibilities and for Europe's credibility as a pioneer of a sustainable, fair economy. In the face of the global backlash regarding democratic and humane values, Europe is missing the opportunity to boldly define its own value-oriented path into the future."

Fair Wear

Fair Wear is one of the most recognized and strictest standards in the field of social responsibility. The independent multi-stakeholder organization focuses on the sewing industry in the supply chains, as this is where the labour-intensive processes take place and therefore a large number of workers can be reached.
