How can I sew a loose Velcro back on?

If the seam on the Velcro, e.g. on the overlap of your jacket, is open, you can sew it back on relatively easily with these repair instructions. Your basic sewing machine skills are required for this.

Tools required:

Scissors, thread, ripper, sewing machine, new Velcro

Difficulty: Medium

Duration : 20 minutes

If the seam at the underlap, i.e. the Velcro, is open, you can simply sew/stitch the Velcro back on close to the edge using the matching thread. However, if the fleece part is loose at the overlap, the process is a little more complex - we will therefore show you this variant in detail here.

The seam ripper is used to open the seam of the overlapThe seam ripper is used to open the seam of the overlap

Use the seam ripper to open up approx. 10 cm of the seam (at the affected area) of the overlap. The more seam you cut open, the easier it will be to topstitch the Velcro back on.

Thread the sewing machine with matching thread and place the presser foot close to the Velcro and topstitch up to the corner.

Stop at the first corner, lift the presser foot, turn the jacket, put the foot down again and continue topstitching. When you have reached the beginning of the seam again, lock the seam by stitching back and forth briefly

To complete the repair, topstitch the opened flap again close to the edge.
