Voluntary product return - FAQ for VAUDE customers

Dear VAUDE customers,

VAUDE has initiated a voluntary product recall of the following products:

Trailmulti II bike bag 15958, Trailmulti bike bag 14298

Unfortunately, we had to determine that in an unfortunate interaction of fork geometry, dirt on the suspension forks and loading situation, a risk of accident can not be excluded. After intensive analysis, consultation with market surveillance authorities and users, we have decided to voluntarily withdraw these products from circulation as a precautionary measure.

Here is the information why we feel this is necessary:

We have received accident reports from customers where the bag has twisted in the spokes of the front wheel, resulting in a fall and injuries to the customer.

VAUDE vouches for the quality and safety of all its products, which includes testing the products on an endurance test bench and in real-life use. So far, we have not been able to recreate the problem either in internal tests or in so-called field tests in real use. VAUDE is aware of its special duty of care. In order to exclude any risk for users, we as the manufacturer are therefore withdrawing the above-mentioned items from retailers and end users as a precautionary measure.

If you are in possession of these items, we would like to ask you to return them immediately to your retailer or send them back there, as the return will be done via the VAUDE retailers. The dealers have been informed accordingly to ensure a smooth processing.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer an exchange at this time as the product is currently being completely redesigned and will then have to go through our improved approval process once again.

What is the defect?

With an unfortunate interaction of fork geometry, dirt on the suspension forks and loading situation, an accident risk cannot be ruled out.

What is so dangerous about it?

On the back of the bag there are three adjustable straps with which the

Bag is attached to the right or left of the fork of the front wheel.

As a max. load, a permissible value of 2.0 kg is specified in the instructions for use. In the instructions for use and on the product itself are notes that the bag is only suitable for certain types of bicycle forks and how the bag should be mounted on the forks.

We have received accident reports from customers where the bag has turned into the spokes of the front wheel while riding, resulting in a fall and the customers have suffered injuries.

We received accident reports and initiated comprehensive tests as a result. The accident events were very different, and so were the bicycle models and the geometry of the suspension forks; this made analysis very time-consuming and difficult. Therefore, we have now decided on a precautionary, voluntary withdrawal from the end user, in order to exclude a possible danger for consumers.

How can this happen?

VAUDE guarantees the quality and safety of all its products. Extensive tests were carried out here during development on an endurance test bench and field test in actual use and on various suspension forks.

Colleagues from product development have even tested the bags during an extended Africa bike trip. Here the now present scenarios had not shown up.

What does VAUDE learn from this incident?

Our internal processes are continuously evaluated and improved. As a result of this recall, all of our development- and production-related quality

Quality requirements, documentation and processes are being reviewed and adjusted.

Is there an exchange offered by VAUDE?

VAUDE does not currently offer an exchange of the items. The product is currently being completely revised and must then first go through our improved release process again.

What is the return?

If you are in possession of an affected product, please return it to your retailer. They are informed and will take the product back and refund the purchase price.

If you have purchased the product in the VAUDE online store (vaude.com) , then use these forms for the return. Please note:

  • Submission "free of charge" make, a shipping fee will be credited with on the credit / discount code.

  • Only the complete amount of the credit/discount code can be redeemed once (otherwise please return to the dealer)

  • The credit/discount code will be sent to you by e-mail, please indicate your e-mail address on the form

  • The corresponding return form must be enclosed with the return shipment

Which costs does VAUDE cover?

VAUDE will cover all costs for return, credit note and the transport costs to VAUDE.

May I dispose of the products myself?

Please return the items to the retailer. Returning them gives us the opportunity to get an overview of how many products have been returned.

What does VAUDE do with the returned products?

VAUDE will destroy these products.
