Between Mountains, family and responsibility: an interview with Aline Bock
Aline Bock is a former freeride world champion, filmmaker and mother of twins and embodies VAUDE's values: closeness to nature, sustainability and equality. We met the likeable Innsbruck native for an interview.
Aline, what got you into Snowboarding?
I've always been fascinated by the mountains and snowboarding was the perfect combination of adventure and freedom for me. For me, it's about seeking and sometimes crossing boundaries, gaining new experiences and getting to know people and cultures. After my beginnings in freestyle, I discovered my true passion in freeride. It's less about winning medals and more about experiencing nature in its purest form.
What led you from the Competition scene to today's focus on sustainability and films?
On my travels, I experienced the beauty, but also the vulnerability of nature first hand. At some point, it became clear to me that I wanted to use my voice to protect nature. Films like "Way East" or "A Land Shaped by Women" give me the opportunity to connect important topics such as sustainability and equality and to motivate and inspire people around the world.
Why is sustainability such a central value for you?
We are all dependent on nature. If we destroy it, we not only lose habitat, but also what makes us happy. Especially as a mother of twins, I feel a responsibility to act for the future of our children. It's about making more conscious decisions now - be it in everyday life or on a social level. What a shame it would be if our children could no longer experience many things that used to be completely normal for us. We must all do our bit by using our individual voices to change the system and convince politicians that we MUST take a different course from now on.

You are involved with Protect Our Winters. What do you achieve there?
Protect Our Winters gives us athletes a platform to promote climate protection. My goal is to show people that every little step counts - from environmentally friendly mobility to more conscious consumption. The winter sports community in particular has a huge responsibility, because climate change is not only threatening our sports, but also entire ecosystems.
Your film "A Land Shaped by Women" has won many awards. What do you want to achieve with it?
With the film, Anne-Flore Marxer and I want to show that equality is possible - and can be incredibly inspiring. Iceland is a role model for integrating feminist values into everyday life, and we wanted to emphasize that with our stories and experiences in nature.
How do you see the role of Women in outdoor sports?
There is still a long way to go to achieve equality, but we are on the right track. Women need visibility - as role models, role models and inspiration. Creating equal opportunities means showing the diversity and strength of the sport in its entirety.
Why did you choose Innsbruck and Tyrol as the center of your life?
Innsbruck is a place that ideally combines city and nature. In the morning I'm on a mountain close to the city and snowboard, in the afternoon I'm at the playground with the children - you can hardly find this quality of life anywhere else. Nature is omnipresent here and gives me energy for all my projects and everyday life.
How does Tyrol shape your values and your family life?
The mountains bring us together as a family. My children learn to respect, protect and appreciate nature here. Tyrol also has a strong community that combines sustainability and tradition. This inspires me to continue working to protect this unique landscape.
Finally, what would you like to say to the readers?
Nature is our greatest treasure. Protect it, enjoy it and think about how you can make your contribution - whether through conscious decisions, sustainable consumption or commitment. Together, we can shape a future worth living.
Thank you, dear Aline!
