Tekoa Biobased Halfzip Pants made from biobased nylon

The Best Things Come from Plants

The Best Things Come from Plants
• Biobased nylon made from castor oil protects the climate and conserves resources
• 50% more elastic and 28% higher yarn strength than conventional polyamide
• 49% less moisture absorption and 7% lighter weight

VAUDE already surprised the outdoor industry with trekking pants made from biobased polyamide in Summer 2020. This material innovation was made possible through a close collaboration with the plastics specialist Evonik, which is now offering a biobased nylon made from castor oil (PA 6.10): Vestamid© Terra. Thanks to its excellent functional properties, VAUDE is now using the sustainable material for even more outdoor apparel in the Summer 2022 collection.

Biobased nylon – climate protection with renewable raw materials.
For the new Tekoa Biobased Pants, VAUDE uses yarn made from 62% vegetable oil: our new, biobased nylon is made primarily from castor oil – this protects the environment and offers excellent functional properties as well. This innovative yarn is 28 % stronger and 50 % more elastic than conventional nylon yarn. It's also 7 % lighter and absorbs 49 % less moisture. We obtain the highly elastic, robust yarn from the oil of castor plant seeds, 62 % of which is added to the raw material. The castor bean plant is an extremely hardy, fast-growing and undemanding plant. It manages with little water and is resistant to pests. The plant is an excellent alternative source of oil for the production of functional nylon in all respects. The functional textiles that VAUDE makes from this nylon or polyamide offer maximum freedom of movement, are durable and make a real contribution to climate protection.

Plants for pants
Performance meets ecology! The lightweight Tekoa Biobased Pants are exceptionally comfortable and offer plenty of freedom of movement on long and demanding mountain tours. The fabric includes 62% castor oil-based polyamide, which increases durability and significantly minimizes its ecological footprint. In addition, the high-stretch hiking pants are wind and water-repellent as well as breathable. Deeper set zip pockets allow easy access to your necessities, even when wearing a climbing harness. An integrated belt ensures a perfect, tailored fit, articulated knees provide additional freedom of movement. The leg cuffs are reinforced with abrasion-resistant Cordura to protect against crampons and sharp-edged rocks. A patch pocket on the leg with zip will keep your phone, hat or energy bar secure and close at hand. The VAUDE Green Shape label stands for environmentally-friendly, functional products made from sustainable and bluesign® certified materials.
