Depending on skill level and previous ski touring experience, children are usually ready for their first ski tour around age 8. Just be sure to choose a route with an altitude of 400 – 500 meters or less. For your first trips out, you’ll want to focus more on the fun to be had than on overcoming physical challenges. Parents who love ski touring have, until now, faced a problem: if they wanted to take their kids along, the choice of apparel often involved some serious compromises. When there’s a lack of alternatives, you’re not going to want to dress your children in Dad’s old hard shell jacket – and not only because it won’t fit right. And it when it comes to the midlayer, pint-sized ski tourers have just as much need for functionality as their parents.
Trio for Touring
The Capacida Hybrid Jacket, the Kids Livigno Halfzip Pullover and Performance Pants have been specially developed by VAUDE for kids who love winter sports. These child-specific ski touring items all feature an impressive motion-friendly cut, functional materials and a sophisticated choice of materials that will meet their needs on your next family tour!
The Capacida Hybrid Jacket is an insulated ski touring jacket that retains warmth even if it gets wet while allowing moisture to escape quickly. A majority of the fabrics used and also the synthetic insulation is made of a recycled material (80 g/m² PrimaLoft® Black Eco). Lycra cuffs with thumb loop help to keep the snow out and the good mood in. The Livigno Halfzip Pullover is also 89 % recycled polyester. (By the way, this style in the same fabric is also available in larger sizes for mum and dad). For the Performance Pants, VAUDE uses soft shell stretch materials in order to offer maximum freedom of movement and the best fabric properties for children engaging in outdoor sports. Abrasion-resistant polyamide at the legs offers robust protection from sharp ski edges, or for a little more fun in the snow after the tour is finished. These comfortable soft shell pants are also a perfect choice for other outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking or cross-country skiing.
Kids on Tour
These jacket, pants and sweater all feature sustainable manufacturing so that parents who love ski touring can look forward to enjoying the winter months together with their children. The family’s first tour in the snow – now that is true freedom. And who knows – maybe the kids will be the first to reach the summit on your next tour.
