GOTS-certified cotton and Archroma dyes for sustainable functional apparel

Naturally beautiful

In the Urban Life Collection for the Summer Season 2020, VAUDE is offering some compelling arguments for sustainable fashion that’s also functional with new GOTS-certified materials and an innovative process for natural dyes. In addition, a large part of the collection is produced in Europe and all styles bear the VAUDE Green Shape label which stands for eco-friendly, functional products made from sustainable materials. The Redmont 1L Jacket was choosen Gold Winner at Outstanding Outdoor Awards at the fair OutDoor by ISPO 2019.

Fair fashion is a catchword that has struck a chord with conscientious consumers. Environmentally friendly, socially fair production is in high demand and ecologically produced clothing has long since shed its shabby image of days gone by. Eco is hip.

A natural look and comfortable functionality are two central features in VAUDE's Urban Life Collection. A third component is a high proportion of natural and recycled materials. Starting in the Summer Season 2020, the strict Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) for natural materials will also be firmly anchored at VAUDE, guaranteeing environmentally-minded shoppers an ecologically clean supply chain from plant cultivation to the finished garment. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) prohibits the use of hazardous chemicals throughout the manufacturing chain. The GOTS standard also ensures compliance with social criteria (e.g. no child labor).

40 % of the products in VAUDE's Urban Life Summer Collection 2020 are GOTS certified. This means the use of at least 70 % organic cotton (dangerous pesticides are prohibited), sometimes blended with recycled polyester. The functional blend of natural and synthetic fibers offers advantages in terms of comfort, product care and drying properties.

Natural dyes for trend-setting good looks

The new Redmont Line is exceptionally eco-friendly. With these modern styles VAUDE wants to reach a young, urban target group – people who don’t forget about the planet when it comes to choosing casual styles.

For the first time, VAUDE is using a new environmentally friendly dye process called Natural Dye by Archroma Earth Colours. This process makes use of vegetable residuals from the food industry, such as beetroot and bitter orange. These renewable raw materials are locally available and conserve crude oil compared to conventional dyeing methods using with petrochemical dyes.  The earthy tones complement their casual style. Fine details made from cork (cord stoppers) and patches underline the natural character.

The Redmont Jacket made from densely woven durable cotton is a great summer choice for a modern lifestyle. The sturdy fabric, the dark natural colors and a loose fit go perfectly with jeans and sneakers. The loose fitting Redmont Pullover with a high collar and raglan sleeves is a trend-setting companion for mild summer evenings. It scores with a functional mix of GOTS-certified cotton and 30 % recycled polyester. And what else is missing for the perfect casual look? A casual tee like the Redmont Shirt, naturally. Put on one and you’ll make an eco-fashion statement with compelling arguments: easy-care, moisture-regulating and slightly stretchy, GOTS-certified cotton, recycled polyester, environmentally friendly dyes. "Yes, you look so eco good!"
