As a responsible outdoor brand, we are passionate about nature. After all, VAUDE products are specifically designed for outdoor use and each one should be an authentic and reliable companion for your wilderness adventures. For us, it is only natural to use materials that have been dyed using environmentally friendly methods wherever possible. That's why we always make sure that our textiles are dyed exclusively in certified dyeing facilities. Our ecolour process is an extremely eco-friendly method. While this dyeing method also requires a certain degree of natural resources, the ecolour process uses significantly less energy and water than conventional dye methods. And emissions caused by production are also significantly lower. Ecolour is also one of the VAUDE Green Shape label criteria. With the help of this label, you can make an active contribution to environmental and climate protection while also improving your own personal CO2 footprint. Take a look at our Green Shape products and you’ll see that they’re just as cheerful and colorful as conventionally dyed textiles.
For a clean environment: the Solution Dye method
When dyeing our textiles, we use Solution Dye or Yarn Dye processes wherever possible. Pigments are added directly while the thread is being spun, which saves large amounts of water and lightens our impact on the planet. Conventional manufacturing processes, however, generally uses the Vat Dye method which involves spinning undyed thread, weaving or knitting it into fabrics and then coloring it in various stages of dyeing and washing cycles. At our supplier's sites, water consumption during the Solution Dye process is only a fraction of that used for Vat Dyes.
And there are other advantages as well. Since VAUDE's dyeing process does not wash out color pigments by continuous rinsing, our textiles also require significantly less chemicals and the improved efficiency of the ecolour process naturally has an impact on the energy consumption of our dyeing processes as well. Last but not least, emissions associated with energy generation are also reduced to a minimum.
If colorful, then green
The resource-conserving technologies used in our ecolour process are already being applied to some yarns and fabrics. At VAUDE, these primarily include the plaid fabrics used for trekking shirts and blouses. In addition, all wool fabrics are treated with our environmentally friendly dyeing methods. But we still aren’t satisfied: for the first time, the 2017 Winter Collection now available includes cozy fleece in the Rienza Series that uses the ecological Solution Dye method. Considering the advantages and the high savings potential of VAUDE ecolour, we want to continue to rely on these methods in the future and dye our materials in an environmentally friendly way wherever possible.
