VAUDE Softshell Steglio Jacket

Cycling with Recycling

Recycling materials are now to be found in an ever-increasing number of new products. The product developers at VAUDE also see this as a positive development, and are increasingly using materials in performance apparel that help conserve valuable resources. This can be seen put to work in two ways in the technical softshell Steglio Jacket.

At first glance, the new Steglio Jacket looks like a classic softshell jacket for cycling. It protects those cyclists who refuse to let bad weather dampen their cycling enthusiasm, taking on the saddle even in windy and icy conditions. Articulated sleeves and a longer cut back are specifically designed to fit a cycling position and prevent cold spots. Chest pocket ventilation allows for easier micro-climate regultation even while riding, and two zip pockets at the back stow necessities for the road. Reflective elements ensure enhanced visibility all round and a small reflective strap at the back can be used to attach a safety light in low light conditions.

At VAUDE, in addition to focusing on highest functionality and all-round protection for cyclists, environmentally friendly material use is key. In Winter 17/18, the new Windproof Green membrane is used in VAUDE products for the first time. For the production of the 100% windproof membrane, at least 25% biobased or recycled material is used, and the membrane is also completely PTFE-free. In the Steglio Jacket, S-Café® oil is used, which is produced in a special process from recycled coffee grounds. The soft fleece material on the inside of the jacket also contains recycled material. Here, VAUDE uses S-Café® recycling polyester, which is 100% recycled. Along with recycled polyester from industrial waste, recycled and yarn-processed coffee grounds are used. A functional side effect is the odor-inhibiting property of the new material, which naturally occurs due to the ingredients of coffee. Not only does this conserve valuable resources, but it also avoids the use of additional chemicals. The main material is certified according to the bluesign® system, which means that close attention is paid to maximum resource conservation and freedom from harmful components in the manufacturing process. VAUDE uses EcoFinish - a PFC-free treatment to create a water-repellent finish on the outer material. All of these criteria mean that the Steglio Jacket bears VAUDE’s Green Shape label.
