What features do VAUDE climbing backpacks and backpacks for mountaineering have?
Aiming high - without limits. Our alpine backpacks for climbing and mountaineering are perfect for all those who like to take an ambitious approach to sports.
Special features of mountain backpacks and climbing backpacks
Mountain and climbing backpacks in the mountain category are characterized by their low weight, close fit, robust materials and features geared towards alpine activities, such as ice axe holders and ski attachments.
Helmet holder

Some of our climbing rucksacks are equipped with a helmet holder. The main compartment can be accessed freely even when the helmet is packed. To attach your helmet, simply remove the helmet holder from the corresponding special compartment and use it to secure the helmet. For all models that do not have a helmet holder, you can easily attach your helmet using the compression straps or the attached loops.
How do I attach the ice axe to VAUDE backpacks?
In alpine terrain, ice axes are usually not needed for the entire tour. They should therefore be stowed securely on the backpack. VAUDE offers two different options for this:

Certain climbing backpacks have an ice axe holder with a practical storage compartment for the pick. The device is first inserted with the pick into the pocket provided. The shaft is then fastened at the top and bottom with the straps.

The second option is to pass the ice tools with the shaft of the device through the loop from above and fold it over. The shaft is then fastened at the top with webbing or Velcro straps.
This is how the climbing backpack fits perfectly: adjusting the aluminum stays and aluminum frame
The better the climbing backpack fits your back, the more comfortable and secure it feels when moving around in the terrain. To ensure an even more precise fit, VAUDE climbing backpacks with body contact backs have aluminum stays or aluminum frames that can be removed and individually adjusted.
The aluminum frame is already anatomically pre-shaped, but every back is slightly different. Small adaptations sometimes make a big difference in terms of comfort and stability.
For the adjustment, the aluminum frame is first loosened and pulled out of the back system. The fit is then checked, ideally with the help of a second person. If there are any discrepancies between the aluminum frame and the shape of the wearer's back, the shape can be adjusted by gently bending it (over the knee or the edge of a round table). When reinserting the aluminum frame, make sure it is facing in the right direction.

Drinking system
The need for fluids is high during activities in alpine terrain. This is why all climbing rucksacks are equipped with an outlet for hydration systems (
and ). Depending on the backpack model, there are various options for attaching the hydration bladder to the backpack and routing the drinking tube to the outside. The compartment is always positioned close to the back so as not to negatively affect the body's center of gravity.
